Did You Know...

One of the oldest wedding traditions, the custom of throwing rice, originated with the ancient Hindus and Chinese. In these cultures, rice is the symbol of fruitfulness and prosperity. Tossing it after the ceremony was believed to bestow fertility upon the bride and groom. Eating rice and other grains was thought to guarantee health, wealth and happiness for the newlyweds. Today, rice tossing is being replaced by the more ecologically friendly birdseed tossing, because uncooked rice is damaging to birds who eat it off the church lawn.

What is a Unity Sand Ceremony?

A unity sand ceremony is a ritual where as a wedding couple, you pour layers of sand into a glass vase, either alone or with selected family and friends. The blending of the sand is a beautiful and unique way to represent the union of your families. A sand ceremony allows you to include people in your wedding ceremony who may not have had any involvement otherwise.

Your sand ceremony is limited only by your imagination. It can be used with just you as a couple or with as many as a dozen people or more. You can pour a layer of sand to represent your children, parents, loved ones who have passed, siblings, extended family, friends, accomplishments, your favourite hockey team, your cats and dogs and so on…

Your family and friends will be amazed by the sand ceremony, and you will have a keepsake from your wedding that will be talked about for years to come.

Do Not Assume!

In order to avoid disappointment, check with your wedding officiant in advance to be sure that you are permitted to use a sand ceremony in your wedding ceremony. Let them know whether it is just the two of you pouring or how many people you plan to involve. If you are not permitted, don’t be discouraged! You can still have your sand ceremony during your rehearsal party/dinner, gift-opening gathering or your wedding reception.

How do I purchase my sand ceremony kit?

You should be wary of on-line and in-store kits that say they are complete kits but, in fact, are not. It is also not as easy as it looks to make your own.

You can purchase your customized sand ceremony kit from Wendy’s Wedding Works locally, on short-notice and with no fuss. These kits come complete with everything you will need to conduct your own sand ceremony, including instructions and sample wording. You choose your own colours, your own number of layers and the meaning behind each layer. The sand is perfectly measured to suit your number of layers and with the sealant to keep the sand in place, it makes a good-looking final product every time.

Great for any occasion!

Your sand ceremony kit from Wendy’s Wedding Works can be modified to suit any occasion for children and adults, such as:

•  Baby Naming Ceremonies

•  Religious Holidays

•  Birthdays

•  Graduations

•  Valentine’s Day

•  Blended Families

•  Anniversaries

•  Weddings

•  Funerals and Memorials and more…

A sand ceremony kit makes a great gift for those who have everything, like your Wife, Mother or Grandmother, and you may bring them along to customize the kit. However, you may not want to surprise people, unless you are sure they would not mind you choosing their colours and number of layers.
